Jody Woodley
Trustee
I am a third-generation Teamster, raised in a union home by parents who instilled in me a strong work ethic, a belief that you help others whenever and wherever you can, and the courage to fight the fights that need fighting.
I have been an RN for nearly 11 years and have been a proud Beaumont/Corewell nurse throughout my entire career. The majority of my career was spent on a very busy MedSurg/Oncology/Hospice unit at Grosse Pointe Campus, where I served as a charge nurse, preceptor, UPC chair, and PNC representative. During those years, I experienced firsthand the gradual elimination of supports and resources for nursing staff and the additional strain it placed on all of us, while we continued to provide compassionate, exemplary care to our patients.
That experience became a driving force behind my decision to become involved in our union drive.
For the past three years, I have worked in PACU/POHA, where I currently serve as UPC co-chair. I have been involved in our union efforts since October 2023 and have been heavily engaged ever since. I have participated in tabling events at every campus to share information, answer questions, and connect with our nurses. I have rounded on our units to listen to your concerns and better understand the experiences of our members. I have also independently attended conferences and trainings to expand my knowledge and gain the tools necessary to better represent our cause.
I continue to fight for your rights as a union steward and member of the bargaining team.
Education and advocacy have been a huge part of my nursing practice throughout my career, and they will be a significant part of my focus as Trustee for Local 2024. We are all learning how a union functions, how decisions are made, and how concerns are addressed. I believe that through education, transparency, communication, and advocacy for all of our bargaining unit members, we can build a union that is strong, informed, and united.
By listening to and engaging our members, we can draw on the experiences, education, and motivations of 10,000 nurses to continue growing our strength and unity. There is no limit to the influence we can have, not only on our units and in our hospitals, but also in our communities and in the healthcare system as a whole.
Every single one of you is worth the time and effort I have given to this cause over the last three years. I believe in every one of you. I believe in what we can accomplish together, and I would be honored to represent you as your Trustee for Local 2024.
In Solidarity!
