As we venture into the next phase of being Local 2024 I would like to give you my back ground and motives for wanting to help lead our union and to work with all of you in building what is to be our future in this profession at Corewell.
I have been a BSN, Registered Nurse for 28.5 years.
My past nursing experience includes:
-
Trauma Surgical/Transplant Stepdown in Arizona @Tuscon Medical Center
-
Beaumont Cardiac Interventional and Cardiac Progressive units at Royal Oak campus
-
Corewell Health Wound Care Clinics in Royal Oak and in Macomb
-
Corewell Health Macomb Surgery Center PACU; Maple Surgery Center PACU; Unasource Surgery Center PACU
-
Corewell Health Troy PACU.
I have 14 years of night shift experience, 14.5 years of dayshift experience and I have been Fulltime, Parttime and Contingent/casual.
I have leadership experience in being a preceptor for both new hires, brand new grad nurses and student nurses. I have been a charge nurse in many of the areas I have worked. I have been a part of UPC and cochaired 2 of the 4 years that I served.
I have been involved with our Union Journey since the beginning and attended our very first meeting in October 2023, where I signed my card. I am a steward for Troy campus and was on your Bargaining Team. As a member of many of our subcommittees, I worked on proposal language and collaborated for many of the articles as well as organized break-out sessions for bargaining committee members, as well as my unit, where I put together the agenda, took detailed notes and distributed the minutes. I organized our first two Local 2024 merch orders, to bring Local 2024 gear to all members. I have tabled and rounded floors, getting communication and education out to members.
Being involved in this way has allowed me to meet and speak to so many of you and I have seen us grow from a quiet movement into this impressive, solid, loud success.
We did that together-all of us.
I am incredibly lucky to have been involved in this process. To see how we came together across 9 campuses and helped each other by talking about our shared experiences and desire for better in our work space- for us and our patients- well, It has been incredibly inspiring. YOU are all inspiring! None of this was accomplished by any one single person or group. We - all of us - did this. WE accomplished these things together.
I truly believe every single nurse- no matter where you work, what your roles are, what shift you work or what status you are- you are equally important and valued in this journey. It will always be my priority to preserve that by always doing my best to hear and represent every single one of you. Transparency and communication are key to continuing to build our union. We are in this together and being a part of your leadership team would be an honor and a privilege I would not take lightly. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
