My Vision for Nurses for Nurses 2024 Going Forward
As we move forward as Nurses for Nurses 2024, I want to see us continue building on the strength, unity, and momentum we created throughout this bargaining campaign. We have accomplished a great deal, but I believe we have an opportunity to build an even stronger and more effective union for our members.
What I Want to See Going Forward
1. Clear and concise guidelines for union stewards
Our stewards are an important resource for every member. I would like to see clear, consistent guidelines and expectations for stewards so they feel confident in their roles and members know where to turn for support, questions, and contract concerns.
2. Greater contract clarity
Every member should be able to understand their contract and know their rights. I would like us to continue working toward clear explanations of contract language, better communication, and resources that make it easier for nurses to understand and utilize the contract.
3. Continued work through the Safe Staffing Committee
Safe staffing must remain a priority. I want to see continuous, meaningful work through our Safe Staffing Committee, with ongoing communication to the membership and a commitment to improving staffing conditions and patient care.
4. Start building toward an even stronger 2029 contract
We should not wait until 2029 to begin preparing. The work starts now. I would like to see us continue documenting issues, listening to members, building solidarity, and identifying the priorities that will help us negotiate an even stronger contract in 2029.
The Leaders I Support
I strongly support Katherine Wallace for President because of her continued dedication to building our union. Throughout the bargaining campaign, Katherine consistently made herself available to answer questions, lead the bargaining committee, organize and participate in tabling events, and help plan and participate in our rallies, meetings, and other union events. She has also maintained a strong presence in our social media communication and has consistently worked to keep members informed and engaged.
I also support Suzi Carbone for Secretary. Suzi has demonstrated outstanding communication skills throughout the entire bargaining campaign, particularly through the WhatsApp communication with our members. She has also been a committed union organizer and has shown that she is willing to put in the work necessary to keep our membership connected and involved.
I also want to recognize Jody Woodley and Alison Lorentz for their contributions throughout the campaign. Both were very present and engaged, contributing through social media and actively participating in our rallies, meetings, and union events. Their involvement helped demonstrate the importance of members showing up, speaking up, and standing together.
Moving Forward Together
I believe the strength of Nurses for Nurses 2024 comes from our members and from leaders who are willing to show up, do the work, communicate, organize, and stand together.
We have built momentum. Now we need to keep it going.
My goal is a union that is organized, transparent, communicative, accessible, and member-driven—a union that supports its stewards, makes the contract understandable, continues fighting for safe staffing, and begins preparing today for an even stronger 2029 contract.
I support the leaders who have demonstrated through their actions that they are committed to doing that work. Together, we can continue building a stronger Nurses for Nurses 2024.
