While I do not know all of the nurses that are running for positions, I do know that I have never doubted the level of dedication to both nurses and patients that these ladies have shown. Even though I've not had the privilege of working side by side with some of them, their thoughts and actions have been evident from the very beginning of our grassroots campaign.
They truly have all of the qualities that I would want not only in my bedside nurse, but in a nurse that's going to represent me and advocate for my patients as our Union grows.
Some of the nurses I have had the privilege of working with. I have worked with Katherine for 15 years, and I can honestly say that I have never worked with a nurse that can compare to her in terms of her tenacity and willingness to stand her ground on behalf of nurses and patients.
Even before the words Union were uttered on our campuses, Katherine was the epitome of everything we've learned about nursing advocacy. I have seen her stand her ground and go toe-toe in situations that were brought all the way up the chain of command. In these situations that were brought before the CNO and president of our hospital, she stood her ground and stated her position clearly and because of her we had policies in place that protected us from abuse from families.
In some of these situations, Katherine was willing to stand her ground when more seasoned nurses were not. In fact, I never saw any nurse stand their ground in some of these situations where Katherine stood in the gap when others refused. I can't think of any other nurse that I would entrust to lead our Union than Katherine.
I've also had the privilege of working with Suzi for the past 5 years. During this time she has shown herself to be a woman of integrity as well as compassion. She is outspoken as well as well spoken - a true example of a nurse who researches and seeks to self-educate herself in order to reach the best outcomes through evidence-based practice. She is as organized as she is diligent and I trust her wholeheartedly.
